The fifth edition of the charity initiative “The Bulgarian Christmas” starts
30.11.2007

At the initiative and under the patronage of President Georgi Paravanov and the first lady Zorka Parvanova, 1 December 2007 saw the start of the fifth successive campaign of the charity initiative "The Bulgarian Christmas. Give Hope to a Child in Need!"

The initiative collects funds for the medical treatment of children and for the purchase of medical equipment and consumables for paediatric clinics and wards.

The previous four editions of “The Bulgarian Christmas” collected a total of BGN 7,384,953. The treatment of over 169 children was supported. Medical equipment and ambulances for a total BGN 5,878,820 for over 49 paediatric clinics and medical teams were purchased.

The organisers of the charity initiative this year as well are the Administration of the President, the Bulgarian National Television and Nova Television.

M-Tel, Globul, Vivatel and BTC again team up in support of the initiative by providing telephone lines for calls and SMS messages.

Calls and SMS messages will be sent to number 1117 - without code for subscribers of M-Tel, Globul and vivatel, as well to number 0900 1117 for BTC subscribers. The price of one SMS is the same as last year – BGN 1.

Media partners of “The Bulgarian Christmas” this year are the newspapers Trud, 24 Chassa and Pari, Bulgarian National Radio, Darik Radio and Radio Atlantic.

The donation account of the campaign is with the United Bulgarian Bank, IBAN: BG13UBBS80023300186210 and bank code BIÑ: UBBSBGSF, UBB, Central branch. Holder of the account is BNT.

Thanks to the cooperation with ePay AD this year too, donations can be made on the Internet through the electronic payment system e-pay. For the first time this year, donations can be made directly with credit cards VISA and MasterCard, which enables our compatriots abroad to quickly and easily make their donations.

For the first time during the campaign funds will also be raised through the sale of greeting cards and car stickers at the price of BGN 1.

The sale of greeting cards is a joint initiative of “The Bulgarian Christmas” and the newspapers Trud and 24 Chassa.  In nearly 10,000 points-of-sale throughout the country from 1 December anyone can join the campaign by buying a Christmas card with the logo of “The Bulgarian Christmas”.

The sale of stickers is done jointly with Lukoil - Bulgaria. The stickers will be available in the petrol stations of the company throughout the country as of tomorrow, 1 December.

The places where the cards and stickers with the logo of “The Bulgarian Christmas” will be sold will be designated with special posters.

Noble Graphics Creative Studio designed the promotion campaign of “The Bulgarian Christmas”.

In keeping with tradition, on 25 December 2007, Christmas Day, a charity concert will be staged at the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, which will be broadcast live by BNT.

After the signing of a tri-partite protocol on behalf of the Administration of the President, BNT and Nova Television, the funds collected through “The Bulgarian Christmas - 2007” will be donated to:

- Dr. Nikola Vassilev  MHAT - Kyustendil;

“The Bulgarian Christmas - 2007” undertakes the commitment to use the funds collected to also buy a new apparatus for genetic testing of pregnant women and children for the National Genetic Laboratory at Maichin Dom in Sofia. The laboratory is the only such team in Bulgaria and the region to offer this type of diagnosis, and the 23-year-old equipment available to physicians is no longer working.

“The Bulgarian Christmas - 2007” has the ambition to help 37 children. They are in urgent need of expensive treatment, which is not covered by the NHIF. The children whose treatment is supported by “The Bulgarian Christmas”, are chosen jointly by the Bulgarian Paediatric Association and the Bulgarian Neonatology Association, the Ministry of Health and the organisers of the charity initiative. Eleven of children will be supported for the first time, 26 are already children of “The Bulgarian Christmas” and it will continue to provide their treatment.

At www.bgkoleda.bg you can read about the campaign in the last four years, and learn about the children and clinics we supported. The website contains also information about the children and hospitals which "The Bulgarian Christmas" will support next year. The method in which anyone who wishes can become a donor is shown – through SMS, telephone call, bank transfer or via the Internet.

“The Bulgarian Christmas” thanks everybody with whose help and support its fifth edition will be realised.
