The fourth edition of the charity initiative “The Bulgarian Christmas” starts

At the initiative and under the patronage of President Georgi Paravanov and the first lady Zorka Parvanova, 1 December 2006 saw the start of the fourth successive campaign of the charity initiative "The Bulgarian Christmas. Give Hope to a Child in Need!"
The initiative collects funds for the medical treatment of Bulgarian children and for the purchase of medical equipment and consumables for paediatric clinics and wards.
The previous three editions of “The Bulgarian Christmas” collected a total of BGN 4,734,953. The treatment of more than 80 Bulgarian children was supported. Medical equipment and ambulances for a total BGN 3,678,820 for over 20 paediatric clinics and medical teams were purchased.
The organisers of the charity initiative this year as well are the Administration of the President, Bulgarian National Television and Nova Television.
M-Tel, Globul, Vivatel and BTC again team up in support of the initiative by providing telephone lines for calls and SMS messages.
Media partners of “The Bulgarian Christmas” this year are the dailies Trud and 24 Chassa, bTV, the Bulgarian National Radio, Darik Radio and Radio Atlantic.
At www.bgkoleda.bg you can read about the campaign in the last three years and learn about the children and clinics we supported. The website contains also information about the children and hospitals which "The Bulgarian Christmas" will support next year. The method in which anyone who wants to can become a donor is shown – through SMS, telephone call, bank transfer or via the Internet.
Calls and SMS messages will be sent to number 1117 - without code for subscribers of M-Tel, Globul and vivatel, as well as to number 0900 1117 for BTC subscribers. The price of one SMS is the same as last year – BGN 1.
The donation account of the campaign is with the United Bulgarian Bank. IBAN: BG20UBBS80021045397416 and bank code BIÑ: UBBSBGSF, UBB, Central branch. In keeping with tradition, on 25 December 2006, Christmas Day, a charity concert will be staged at the Ivan Vazov National Theatre, which will be broadcast live by BNT and Nova Television. After the signing of a tri-partite protocol on behalf of the Administration of the President, BNT and Nova Television, the funds collected through “The Bulgarian Christmas” will be donated to: - Paediatric and Neonatology ward of the Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment, Shumen; - Neonatology ward of the Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment, Dobrich; - Neonatology ward of the Dr. Stamen Iliev Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment, Montana; - Neonatology ward of the Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment, Blagoevgrad; - Paediatric Otolaryngology Clinic of the Queen Ioanna Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment, Sofia; - Paediatric and Neonatology ward of the Dr. Atanas Dafovski Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment, Kurdjali; - Neonatology ward of the Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment, Rousse; - Paediatric ward of the R. Angelova Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment, Pernik; - Neonatology ward of First Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment, Sofia; - Neonatology ward of the Dr. Shukerov Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment, Smolyan.
“The Bulgarian Christmas - 2006” has the ambition to help 35 children. They are in urgent need of expensive treatment, which is not covered by the NHIF. The children whose treatment is supported by “The Bulgarian Christmas” are chosen jointly by the Bulgarian Paediatric Association and the Bulgarian Neonatology Association, the Ministry of Health and the organisers of the charity initiative.
