The treatment of 40 children has to date been supported by funds from the charity campaign “The Bulgarian Christmas - 2005”, which is realised at the initiative of the head of state. The total value of the financial support for these children is BGN 158,250. Medicines and consumables have been bought which are not financed by the NHIF. The main part of the funds is for children suffering from rare diseases and chronic problems, requiring prolonged treatment.
 
BGN 1,972,173 of the funds raised in the campaign have been spent for medical equipment and four ambulances.

One of the ambulances is intended for the Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment of Internal Dieases Godech and will be equipped for general medical needs. The other three are for the municipalities of Tundja, Kostenets and Loznitsa. The four municipalities have little possibilities for their own financing of such activities, have comparatively many settlements, remote from the municipal centre, and face serious difficulties in servicing the population.

The medical equipment purchased is already being delivered to the neonatology and paediatric teams of 13 university and multiprofile hospitals in Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, Burgas, Stara Zagora, Pleven, Vratsa, Gabrovo and Vidin.

The third edition of “The Bulgarian Christmas” had the ambition to help 14 children and 6 clinics. At the end of the campaign in December 2005 just over BGN 2,000,000 had been collected, allowing hope to reach many more children in need.

The children whose medical treatment is supported byВ  "The Bulgarian Christmas" are chosen jointly by the Bulgarian Paediatric Association the Bulgarian Neonatology Association, the Ministry of Health and the organisers of the charity initiative. The decisions for the allocation of funds and for the purchase of medical equipment are taken with the signing of a tri-partite protocol by representatives of the Administration of the President, Nova Television and the Bulgarian National Television.
