35 children and 11 paediatric clinics will be supported with funds from “The Bulgarian Christmas”
07.02.2006
A total 35 children and 11 paediatric clinics will be supported with funds from the “The Bulgarian Christmas”, instead of the initially announced 14 children and 5 clinics, President Georgi Parvanov announced during the official closing of the donation campaign for 2005.
This is made possible thanks to the widespread activity and the powerful support which the charity initiative, held under the patronage of the head of state, received during its third edition.
We collected much more than we hoped for even in our most optimistic expectations, Georgi Paravanov pointed out. BGN 2,051,000 are the total funds raised in the campaign. Added to these are medications and cash donations for BGN 150,000.
In connection with the closing of the campaign, the President today invited its most active participants to a glass of wine – co-organisers, media partners, the team and performers of the Christmas charity concert, representatives of children’s medical treatment facilities, donors.
In his speech, the head of state thanked all those who, in keeping with their possibilities, showed their compassion for the fate of the sick children. He especially noted that close to BGN 1,000,000 were collected from telephone calls, which, in his words, means that “the idea of charity, of solidarity is alive and strong in Bulgarian society”.
The President assured that the help will be distributed properly, accurately and professionally, the public again being informed in detail about every penny spent.
Yet again, the head of state underlined that the legislators have to decide the issue of tax relief for business and citizens who donate funds for such charity purposes.
I thank the whole Bulgarian people for the fact that the sum this year is double than last year’s total and joy will be brought to many children, many indicators will be improved, Assoc. Prof. Emilia Hristova said on behalf of the Bulgarian Paediatric Association and the Bulgarian Neonatology Association.
