“The Bulgarian Christmas” charity campaign launched for the third time
30.11.2005

At the initiative and under the patronage of President Georgi Parvanov and the first lady Zorka Parvanova, the charity initiative
"The Bulgarian Christmas. Give Hope to a Child in Need!" was launched on 1 December 2005.

 The charity campaign, which is organised for the third successive year, collects funds for the medical treatment of Bulgarian children and for the purchase of medical equipment and consumables for paediatric clinics and wards in the country.

The organisers of the charity initiative this year too are the Administration of the President, the Bulgarian National Television and Nova Television.

 M-Tel, Globul and BTC again team up in support of the initiative by providing telephone lines for calls and SMS messages. The initiative this year is also joined by the new mobile operator vivatel.

 Media partners of “The Bulgarian Christmas” this year are the dailies Trud, 24 Chassa and Standart News, Bulgarian National Radio, Darik Radio and the Association of Bulgarian Broadcasters.

As of this year "The Bulgarian Christmas" has its own website. At www.bgkoleda.bg you can read about the campaign in the last two years, and learn about the children and clinics we supported. The website also contains information about the children and hospitals which "The Bulgarian Christmas" will support with the present campaign. Through the webpage of “The Bulgarian Christmas” anyone who wishes to donate funds and become part of the initiative, can choose the way in which to do so.

The price of one SMS is the same as last year – BGN 1. Calls and SMS will be sent to number 1117 – without code for subscribers of M-Tel, Globul and vivatel, as well to number 0900 1117 for BTC subscribers.

Besides through calls or SMS, anyone who wants to help can use the donation account in the United Bulgarian Bank. The account number is 1045397416 and the bank code: 20080023, UBB, Sveta Sofia branch.

In keeping with tradition, on 25 December 2005, Christmas Day, a charity concert will be staged at the National Opera and Ballet, which will be broadcast live by BNT and Nova Television. The concert will feature well-known Bulgarian performers and celebrities. Some of the children and the subjects of donation as well as the donors will be introduced.

After the signing of a tri-partite protocol on behalf of the Administration of the President, BNT and Nova Television, the funds collected through “The Bulgarian Christmas” will be donated to:
Clinic of Neonatology of the Maichin Dom University Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Sofia;
Neonatology and Child Nursing ward of the Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment (MHAT) Bourgas;
Newborn and Premature Infants ward of the Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment Plovdiv and
Paediatrics ward of the St Anna Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment, Sofia.

“The Bulgarian Christmas” has the ambition to help another 14 children, who are in urgent need of expensive treatment, which is not covered by the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
