A charity initiative of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria Georgi Parvanov, bTV and Slavi’s Show with the assistance of M-Tel, Globul and BTC, 24 Chassa daily, Trud daily and the Horizont programme of the Bulgarian National Radio (BNR).

All of us who organised the charity initiative “The Bulgarian Christmas” thank the Bulgarians who took part in it. The funds raised through telephone calls, SMS and bank account donations amount to BGN 1,334,953.75.

The funds collected were used to aid the Department of Paediatrics and Medical Genetics - Plovdiv, the Clinic of Paediatric Nephrology and Haemodialysis – paediatric dialysis centre - Sofia, as well as concrete medical and social cases. Most of these cases, as well as the needs of the two paediatric clinics were widely publicised in Slavi’s Show, bTV News, 24 Chassa daily, Trud daily, the Horizont programme of BNR, and were made known to the whole Bulgarian public.

The organisers of “The Bulgarian Christmas” discussed the proposals, made by the two paediatric clinics and a donation of urgently needed medical equipment was made to the Department of Paediatric Nephrology and Haemodialysis in the amount of BGN 191,959 and to the Clinic of Paediatric and Genetic Diseases in the amount of  BGN 280,060.61.

A consultation with physicians was organised for all medical cases. Professional stands for treatment were prepared. Seven children were admitted to hospital facilities for tests and treatment. Two children from Homes for Children Deprived of Parental Care were operated on in the neurosurgery ward of Alexandrovska Hospital at a total cost of BGN 11,962.80. Medications were bought for three children, suffering from leukaemia for a total BGN 111,960. Funds were allocated for the purchase of cochlear implants for four children with impaired hearing for BGN 112,000. Medications for the two-year treatment of two children with hereditary diseases were bought for a total BGN 7,353.77. Individual assistance totalling BGN 6,000 was allocated to four children in a difficult social situation from Homes for Children Deprived of Parental Care.

The donation activity for “The Bulgarian Christmas” has not ended, funds are yet to be allocated for tests and treatment of the other cases.

Sometimes a little is needed for something big.

The children whose medical treatment is supported byВ  "The Bulgarian Christmas" are chosen jointly by the Bulgarian Paediatric Association the Bulgarian Neonatology Association, the Ministry of Health and the organisers of the charity initiative. The decisions for the allocation of funds and for the purchase of medical equipment are taken with the signing of a tri-partite protocol by representatives of the Administration of the President, Nova Television and the Bulgarian National Television.
